Continuing with the theme of must-have small business blog features, today’s entry is to have a well thought out About Me page that is optimized for some desired action. For example, our About Me page is actually an About Us page and we basically wanted to convey a few specific things about who we are and what we stand for. For this reason, we included our location and the structure of the company which allows us to have drastically lower prices than many of our competitors while still being able to offer the highest quality services.

The most important aspect of the page for me is the 90% statistic. When you perform the vast majority of your work for clients you never actually meet in person, many prospects want to know that other people have found satisfaction in our work and that they are interested in continuing to work with us. As a mostly-online business, this is the question I’m asked most and so it made sense to put that number in a place where we aren’t flaunting it, but it’s highly likely that new visitors will come across it on their own.

I’m not convinced our About page is optimized as well as it could be, but I’m not asked that question so much anymore and that was the goal. It may not seem all that important to your site’s goals, but studies have shown that most new visitors to a blog do click on the About page. Use that information to maximize its utility. Entice them into an action or answer the questions your clients ask you most and save yourself the hassle of answering them yourself time after time.
