Expanding on my recent post about choosing an author for your small business blog, I’ll be going over some of the more important factors to think about concerning who you should choose to write the posts for your blog. Each Wednesday throughout the month, I’ll discuss one particular topic in depth and give the readers an opportunity to add their own thoughts and experiences with picking an author for their blogs.
In my opinion, the most important factor to keep in mind when choosing an author for your blog is to choose someone that knows your business inside and out and can be trusted to supply the valuable information needed to make your small business blog a success. In many small businesses, this is an easy choice because the business owner is the only option. In other businesses, a partner, adviser or senior employee may be the best choice.
Even if the business owner is the best candidate for authoring your blog, there are still other things to consider before anointing them as author. Business owners are notoriously over burdened with the day-to-day dealings of their business and may not have the time needed to commit to making your blog a go-to resource. If you aren’t going to put the time and effort into your blog, you may want to find another way way to increase your businesses visibility. Blogs are the best means for doing so, but if your blog isn’t up to par, it’s not going to help you reach your goals and will only take up more of your time and energy.
If finding a suitable author for your blog is difficult, or worse, futile, there are still options. You can hire a freelance writer to blog for you, as long as they can be educated on your business and its goals. You can also hire a dedicated writer for your business whose only job is to write for your blog. This can be a successful tactic, if you can afford it, as they will have the time to write as often as you’d like and still have time to continually educate themselves on your business and how best to convey your message to the world.
Now I’d like to hear your thoughts.
